What Carb should I be running
What Carb should I be running
I posted this question on the Carb. site here on thirdgen. and so far I have had no repies, so I thought I would try it here. I have a 84Z-28 with a 355 in it the motor has(355ci. L31 vortec heads,Comp 268 extreme cam 224/230 at 50 and 477/480 lift, flat top hyper. pistons,PreformerRPM intake, high preformance ignition and right now a 600cfm. Carter Competition carb. it's 9.7 to 1 comp. I have had differenmt people tell me that I'am not running enough carb. thay say that I should be running a 750cfm. carb. Not every time but sometimes the car seems loose some power at about 5500rpm it seems to want to go but just can't and it now has me wondering if i'am not under carbed now. The 268 cam is a new addition and don't know if it needs more. The car right now at Firebird raceway in Phoenix ran 13.82 at 101.33 in 106 air temp and 5000ft. air thats with 373 gears and a 700R4 trans. What do you guys think should I go bigger or be happy where i'am at!!! Any opinions are welcome. Thanks NORT

600 is too small, especially at high altitude. 750 would be better. A Holley will ru na whole lot better than the Carter.
You can't put any more cam than that in an engine with those heads, unless you do some machine work. It's actually a real popular choice with them, I'd leave it alone.
