Windshield Whipers, Slow and Slower
Windshield Whipers, Slow and Slower
Is it me or is everyones windshield whipers like have to settings, slow and not as slow as before but still slow. LOL
I'm serious, there was a heavy down poor today and I had like zero visibility in the rain cause these things move so slow. I am sure its not the blades, looked them over, look new and in good shape. Perhapps the motors, or do they just not go fast period??
I only have high and low on mine, its an 89 RS.

My wipers suck too. I only have high, but after extended use, they slow down. Tried a new motor, but it did the same thing. Something about the resistance on low went to zero or something goofy like that. Been a long time and don't relly remember what the problem was.

One snowy/sleety night in Jan '96 (ex-girlfriends are good for "time" memory, eh?), my wipers slowed way down, then slowed some more- and stopped! Good thing I was a few hundred feet from my driveway, or I would've been screwed. Next day, I took the wiper motor out & apart- and couldn't find anything burnt or otherwise wrong. I cleaned the contacts & brushes with alcohol and put the motor back together- it's worked fine ever since... go figure. Maybe you guys just need to clean up your contacts & brushes...

The problem is usually the ground... there's a little brass strap that "jumps one of the rubber bushings, when the rubber gets old, the strap doesn't make good contact, and the wipers slow down or stop altogether.
Connect a small piece of wire from one of the screws on the body of the motor someplace to one of the ground screws on the firewall. Doesn't have to be big ware or anything, the same size as the wires in the harness is fine. See if that helps.
TomP's probably started working right because his ground accidentally got connected better by his working on it.
