New head choice for 305's

I e-mail'd Edelbrock to ask them about a couple of thier heads. Head# 6087 (Performer Centerbolt Corvette) and # 6085 (Performer Centerbolt).

Their reply stated that these heads do have an EGR crossover, 60cc chambers, 163cc intake, 2.02/1.60 valves (they wont sell them with any smaller valves)

I thought what if I bought bare head # 6086(Corvette one for my 86) or if someone purchased bare head # 6084 (for 87-up intakes) couldn't you just have them machined for 1.94/1.50 valves? This way, they would be an emissions legal, bolt-in head for 305's.

Aren't those the 58cc chambers on those heads you listed? With valves that size in a chamber that size, you would have to unschroud the valves in order to see any improved flow. Otherwise you may actually loose power. But by unschrouding the valves, you are gonna increase the chamber size which will lower compression slightly.

Go with the proven (and emissions legal) 305 S/R Torquers from World Products. They figured all that our for ya. Just bolt 'em on and you're done.

Its possible, but the seats more than likely will not work with the smaller valves. You would probably need to replace the seats to make that work. Looking at around 200 bucks to do that.

NJ speeder has those 60cc Edelbrocks on his 305 TBI. He's gone 14.2 with the TBI and stock peanut cam.
