Hesitation, loss of power

I have a nasty little hesitation when I accelerate normally - it bogs then jumps. If I accelerate very gently, or real hard there is no hesitation. I also have noticed lately that somtimesif I accelerate normally for a second or two then get on it, it dies right off (not stalled, just no power at all) for a sceond with what sounds like a backfire, then if I let off the gas and back on it is fine. On top of this I have noticed that sometimes when starting the car it starts to rev as normal (higher revs then down to idle speed) but then sputters and idles rough for a second then idles up again.

The plugs look good (I pulled several randomly (since they are such a bitch to get at)), the plugs wires seem good (newer Accel), the cap and rotor look fine. The injectors have been rebuilt last summer. I don't appear to have any vacuum leaks (did the standard carb spray test) but I can't be 100% certain. There are NO CODES.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Eric

More than likely your TPS sensor has a dead spot in it.
