turbine/supercharger question

I have a few questions regarding performance improvements with turbos and superchargers.

1)What is Turbo lag? Are there ways to reduce/eliminate it?

2)Which is more efficient, belt driven turbine or exhaust driven turbine? (By efficiency I mean power consumed/power gained)

3)Which is more efficient, turbines or superchargers?

Turbos work off of exhaust, so when the exhaust isn't moving, less boost is created. When you accelerate from a dead stop, your rpms will be low, so the turbo wont really kick in for a few thousand rpm, I think this is was is refered to as turbo lag.

Since belt driven systems leech off of the crank, exhaust drivens are typically seen to be more efficient. This is why some are trying to develop turbos for the thirdgen, but we already have many superchargers to choose from.

Turbo lag is the amount of time it takes the engine to reach full boost after you launch the car. Turbo's spin between 150 and 200 thousand RPM's, so it takes a while for it to get going that fast.

Ways to eliminate lag are smaller housing sizes, which build pressure quicker, different pitch blades and number of blades.

Exhaust driven is more efficient. The losses from backpressure against the piston and poor cylinder evacuation are not as much as the power needed to spin the turbine.

Turbos are more efficient.
