Non thirdgen....demo derby.....WTF did I do????

Well, some of you probably remember my post on welding the spider gears in the rearend to make a posi. Well, my dad welded em all right. I drove it around the lot a little bit and it seemed fine (yeah, the tires chirped around every corner, but that was expected). Anyways, we towed the car home, and I had everything ready for the demo derby except for the paint. Well, we unhooked the chain from the tow truck, I put it in reverse, backed the car up, but it in drive. Heard a weird *** noise, and tried to give it some gas. Nothing happened. My dad said that the driveshaft was spinning. This was all the night before the derby too, so I didn't have time to swap out the rear end I just blew. What could I have done? I did put oil back in there too. Thanks.

If the driveline is spinning, I would guess you done blowed up the rear.

Pull the cover and inspect the damage.

Ya know, I did memtion not to drive it on asphalt.

And yes, I'd say ya done blowed the rear too...I'd venture to guess that the spidergears are now sorta round, instead of "teethy"

I pulled the cover and sure enough the spider gears were blown. Could I have welded too much? I barely drove it on pavement, just moving it a little bit to get it on and off the tow truck. Luckily I have a different rear end that will work. Now I just have to race at a different fair. Thanks. Oh, and Vader, did you go to the Lake County fair demo derby?
