serpentine swap help
serpentine swap help
I just got the engine together and need some help with the accessories. When I ordered the swap from tacreations they sent me four bolts that have torx bit required, I figure three are for the crank pulley and one for the compressor hose..but they sent me a few that have what looks like a small 12 point end, they dont fit through the water pump, so Im wondering if I need my old bolts or if they were supposed to send me some, what size are they, etc
Anyone have pictures? That would really help. What are those 12 point bolts for?

I think you'll have to ask the manufacturer what the bolts are for.
You never stated the sizes of the four bolts. If three were the same size with the fourth being bigger, I'd guess three thread into the harmonic balancer to hold the pulley and the fourth threads into the crankshaft to secure the the harmonic balancer (damper).
But right now it's purely a guessing game with the limited information presented.
12-point bolts are just another style of bolt. But these are favored for being able to be gripped better by using a 12-point socket. 12-point, hex, allen, torx - all do the same job - just a different head. Make sure you use an appropriate size/grade of washer with these, as 12-point bolts generally have a smaller diameter head. Just my opinion.

I know what all the bolts do, except for the 6 point ones(Im seeing double, sorry). I think Im gonna have to go to the hardware store, this can't be everything I need. Thanks for the help though.

The torx blots are NOT for the crank pulley OR the compressor. Both the crank and the compressor have hex head.None of the bolts that hold the serpentine system on are on the water pump.
I know, I had to go to the hardware store for the water pump, and reuse old v-belt bolts for the two accessory racks. I managed to get everything bolted on, just took a little patience. Now all thats left is to hook up the smog stuff, extend the alternator wires, and measure for a belt. Im pretty happy with the serpentine system.
Should the belt be about 90 inches long with every accessory hooked up? Anyone ever heard of an extension for the alternator being made, so that you don't need to do any cutting?
