What insurance coverage do you carry/recommend?

I guess this is the board to post this question - thought about the History/Restoration board....

Anyway, I'm planning on bringing my IROC out of storage for the summer. I bought it nearly two years ago and because of multiple moves and no place to keep it, it has been in storage at my parents place in Michigan since I drove it home when I purchased it. I've been dying to drive it some, as I'm sure you all can imagine!

I currently live in NY (see sig) - a great no-fault state..... My plan right now is to carry the basic liability plus comprehensive with a $500 deductible - the comp mainly because of the insane deer overpopulation in the area. It's gonna run about $310 for 6-months and it's actually only about $13 less if I drop the comprehensive, so kind of seems worth while to me.

I'm not sure if this is enough, too little or too much coverage for an '89 IROC. Obviously it has a lot of value for me but facing the facts, if something were to happen, it's blue book value wouldn't replace the car. I've never insured a car like this before so just wondering what others here use for coverage and any recommendations are welcome.

K

Comprehensive is the way to go. You'll be loseing the collision but like you said, the Blue Book value on our cars are very low and wouldn't cover the repairs if it were wrecked.

When it comes to insurance the cheaper the better usually. Your car isnt worth as much to the insurance company as it is you or me.

I read somewhere on the board someone only got a payout of $1800 or so with a mint 90ish.

I had problems of my own with my 76 C10 which was also mint a month ago when someone in a toyota truck decided he needed a closer look at my rear end. Chevy steel is stronger His insurance totaled my 76 which isnt bad off but because they claimed I could replace it for $800-$2200. I dident argue too much since I can fix it myself for $450 but it's worth 6K.

I'd reccomend for where you live especially a collision coverage. Sure you could buy another car cheap enough but for 13 bucks a month extra it's not worth loosing.

I have $100 detuct comprehensive, $250 deduct Collission on my GTA. Gotta have the comp for sure here in Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin, so many deer. I tagged a deer with my '92RS(had the same coverage) they paid out $2300 to repair the damage, just missed being totalled out. Comp will also cover theft, fire, hail, vandalismm etc. Well worth the money IMHO. It also doesn't affect your premiums when you make a comp claim becuase the situatution is out of your control. I pay $1300 a year with state farm(23Y, M, Single, Renters/multicar discount, no accident discount, 5tickets). Not a bad deal. My GTA Blue Books for $4500 though, which is more than an IROC or any other thirdgen besides the TTA.
