Synthetic oils: brands other than M1 and best place to buy

Ok, so this board has seen too much already in the oil discussions but one thing that didn't get recognized was the fact that there are other oil manufacturers other than mobil. How do the synthetic oils from Havoline, Castrol, Penzoil, Mobil, etc. stack up against each other? Which is the best? What about princing? What is a good price per quart(not per quart bottle) for a synthetic oil? Who the hell sells >5 quart jugs of the stuff? I haven't found any place that carries large jugs of synthetic oil let alone a discount on volume purcahsing.

I don't know much about the others, but read something awhile back about Castrol switching to a cheaper base in their synthetic oil and keeping the price the same. I would stick to Mobil 1 since I think it's the best that can be easily found in a store. I'm buying 5qt jugs for less than $18 a piece at Wal-Mart in the summers (in Tennessee). I stock up every year and there's still a bunch of it on sale there now but I've already got more than enough . Where do you shop?

My 86 TA lived on 20-50 valvoline synthetic from 28,000 to 153,000 miles, didnt have any significant wear and you could still see the crosshatching in the cylinders.

Theres also Redline, Royal Purple (or something like that), and a whole mess of stuff the diesel truck guys use.
