I am having a problem with my tach. Engine sounds and runs fine but it red lines(maxed the needle at 7000) any time I am in passing gear. Also is running around 4000 and 45 mph and 6000 at 70 in overdrive.

Is there a sensor or something that I need to replace. It is very unnerving to see this as I am driving. I keep wondering when I am going to throw a rod. I really don't think it is accurate.

I have a 2.8 and have had very little problems with the car. I have had it 15 years and this started after it sat for the winter.
