sensor/green wire??????
Hey all,
Yesterday I jacked up my 92 bird to check to see if all the plugs are ok. They are. Then I get to the passenger side and I see a
thin green wire with a suction cup type grommet on the end. I
have NO IDEA where it goes. I look around and between the
number 8 and 6 plug openings I see what looks like a sensor.
I would like to know if ANYONE knows if it is a sensor and what
sensor it is. Also, if they know if that thin green wire goes to it.
If not, does anyone know where that green wire might go? It
is in the same wire loom as the starter wires.
This wire is more than likely the reason my car cranks and does
not start. Some how some way that wird came loose from something.
Any help, suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I may get this thing running after all.

That is the fan switch.
Yes a dark green wire with a single round Weatherpak goes to it.
No it will not keep the car from starting; it will simply keep th eelectric fan from working at some of the times that it's supposed to.

Thanks.
That's a relief. It just kind of pops right back on right?
This would explain why I haven't really heard the cooling fan
run (when the car actually did start).

Yeah, it should just pop back on, but the connector and/or the sensor itself is often damaged (they're just plastic). Somehow get it hooked up again.
If your car is just a single fan system that is the ONLY sensor that will turn on the fan (unless you turn on the A/C) and it does so around 228*F coolant temp.

The fan switch of a single, or dual fan system will only turn the fan on at 238°.
The A/C has a pressure switch that will also turn on the fan at 233 psi.
The ECM will turn on/off the primary Fan, or single Fan at whatever temperature it's programmed for using the Coolant Temperature Sensor on the front of the Intake.
