Failed CALI SMOG!!!

Here are the results. After the test i did some trouble shooting and found that the EGR was not working. So i bought a factory one. COuld this be my problem? I replaced my O2 sensor about a year ago. I just did a tune-up on it. It also has Hooker 2055 headers with air injection and New 3" cat high flow. It was ready for smog. Help guys!!

Readings:

HC(ppm) 15mph: MAX-110/Ave-31/MINE-215
25mph: MAX-85/Ave-20/MINE-159

NO(ppm) 15mph: MAX-772/Ave-237/MINE-1328
25mph: MAX-711/Ave-199/MINE-965

These are the only ones that i didnt do good on. The guy told me that its running to rich? Help guys!!

Do a pretest, go to a test-only station if you can. It doesn't matter if you fail then. It doesn't get recorded and it doesn't get reported to the DMV. You pay for it though, but no big deal. You can do it as often as you like. Then, when you're set to go, do the real thing.

I have heard that reduced backpressure will reduce the effectiveness of stock TBI EGR valves. You might want to look into an aftermarket "negative pressure" replacement.

Also, blocked EGR passages within the intake manifold aren't uncommon. You can't necessarily see that just by taking the valve off the manifold and looking in.

And, high NOx can be caused by ignition timing too far advanced. Check that to be sure.

What all did you do for the tuneup? O2 sensor?

well i put the timming back to 0. I did a complete tune-up when i did the header exhange. New plugs, wires, the O2 is about a year old, new pvc, The car is ready.... Factory air intake, its back to complete stock. except the headers and the high flow cat and 3inch exahaust. Do you think my headers are causing me to loose back pressure?

Also i think i forgot to gap the spark plugs when i put them in there. Will this cause anything? They are AC Delco rapid fires.

Patience, Grasshopper! This is a hobby, which I use personal time (like lunchtime) to pursue...

The sparkplug gap would have to be pretty off to cause a problem. But, it could be causing a problem.

The headers will reduce backpressure. As I said, that can cause a problem with stock type EGR valves.

as far as i know ac rapid fires are pre-gapped and do not recommend changing gap (i run these plugs myself). i believe they have plastic sleeves to protect them in shipment. so the gap shouldnt be the problem.

HCs and NOX are both high, which means you are running lean. The reason they are probably saying it is rich is because of the smell of the exhaust. If you are so lean as to get misfires the unburned fuel will enter the exhaust raising HCs. The mixture that does burn, burns slower and hotter raising your NOX. Get some more fuel into the motor and see what happens.

Just noticed that you have headers and a full exhaust system. That will change the VE of the engine which will increase the fuel the engine needs. You are certainly lean.

Maybe you could try some of theat stuff that says "Guaranteed to pass emissions tests"?

Glad I dont have to worry about emissions. I'd never pass w/o a cat
