400
400
I am hoping that someone can help me with this question. I am able to get two 400 Pontiac wide blocks free the only catch is niether have a flywheel. Somone said the 400 pontiac is a externally balanced engine and I'd need the original flywheel from the engine, but I know there is a guy in town that balances complete rotating assemblies. My question is does anyone know if I can get a different flywheel balanced? Thanks in advance to all that can help. James
I don't see why you couldn't, you can get everything else balanced.

You would only need the original if you did a basic rebuild with no machine work...ie rings, bearings, gaskets..... If you had core parts replaced (crank, rods, pistons) you would need to have it re-balanced anyway. Then you could give another flywheel and have him balance it to the rotating new assembly.
Alright that confirms it. I thought it would work but the problem that I was tring to avoid was making myself look ignorant and have him try to take advantage of me as was my last dealing with a machine shop (T.S. Machine in Busti NY). Thanks Alot James
