Name that car part!

Whats the name of the sensor right next to the coolant temp sensor? the coolant temp sensor is the one with 2 wires coming out and then theres one with like 4 right next to it. What is it and what does it do? This is on an 86 305 tpi.

Ulysses,

That is likely the cold start injector control. It senses coolant temperature and will operate the cold start injector for a period of time on the first start attempt. The ECM will only allow the control to function if the CTS and MAT sensors are below 104°F and within about ten degrees of each other.

The cold start only has 2 wires, and if the car is starting up ok I wouldnt bother replacing that sensor. If its 4 wires, you are probably looking at the IAC (idle air control) which is actually not in the manifold base but rather the throttle body.
