Question about Drivetrain Horsepower Specs

Hello All:

As part of my research into an engine swap, i'm looking into stock drivetrain specs a bit.

I'm looking at the specs for the 91 and 92 Camaro/Firebird.

It shows a spec for the 305 of 205HP, then another spec for the 305 for 230HP. But, the gearing on the higher spec is different. Then it shows the 350 with the auto-trans at 245HP.

Not to be stupid, but does anyone know if these specs are talking about rear wheel horsepower as opposed to flywheel horsepower? As far as I can figure, the only difference in the 230HP car is that the gearing is 3.42 vs. the 2.73 that I have in my car...

Can someone clear me up on that?

If I have the above right, that seems to indicate that I could expect 245HP from the 350 if I use the same gearing they used, vs. the 205HP I "enjoy" now....

Thanks for any and all input!

Lee B.

The manual trans with the better rear gear got a more powerful engine (cam change I believe).

Rear gears have nothing to do with flywheel horsepower. The difference you are seeing Between the 305's are the tranny and cam and with the 350 just more cubes. Also all Factory spec's are flywheel and NOT at the wheels.
