valve train tick
ever since i installed my 1.6 rockers i seem to have a tick in the valve train. somewhere in the 5,or 7 cylinders but the tick seems to be coming from the lifter valley not at the rocker. i first set the lash at 1/4 past zero lash then i went to 1/2 past zero lash no change, the tick goes away when i increase the rpm from idle 700 to about 1500. i run 5w30 mobile one oil. i also added new lifters also. about a month prior to the new rockers. it taps like hell when oil temp goes up. what ya think? thicker oil... like 5w40 do i have to much lift ?
to locate which rocker or lifter is causing the tick take the push rods out one at a time till it stops ,that is to say only one push rod out at a time --- it could be valve spring bind if you have a high lift cam or as simple as a rocker stud pulling out ... hope you find it ...good luck tao

well i went out today 1st thing. with a long vacume hose to my ear.. i listened to the motor, when i put it in drive the motor quiets down a bit, oil was cold, (thick). it started tapping ,after it settled in warm idle, i put it in drive and chocked the wheels and it shut up under load
man... i am ready to put my stock rockers back on! is the cam in my profile enough lift? if so hmm. back on they go.. i am at 1/2 past zero lash. should i try 3/4 or 1 past before i give up? will all that preload hurt the motor?

1/4 past zero lash shouldnt tick.a full turn will cause a severe bog in some cases.are you positive it isn't an exhaust leak?try straight 30 wt.as stated above, also do you have screw in rocker studs?with that lift you definately should!
hope this helps

edelbrock 6085 heads ...... yep screw in studs... hydrolic roller lifters by the way
ahh ... you do have hydraulic lifters ... when i adjust mine from a completly loose position i twist the push rod back and forth as i tighten the rocker nut once i feel resistance in the push rod i give
the nut one more full turn ... that should put you close to the center of travel in the lifter ... let us know what your solution is ... best of luck to ya ... tao
