Mechanical speedo bounces
When I'm going about 70-75 mph, the speedo starts bouncing from around 60-65 to around 90-95. I can also hear what sounds like some sort of scratching/sqeaking coming fromthe speedo. This problem is clearly mechanical, as it's an 89 Iroc cluster.
I've searched and found some people suggesting the cable needs lubing, which I'll do just in case, but the sound makes me wonder if the speedo internals are just plain worn out.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

It sounds like the cable. If the bouncing was worse and made more of a ringing sound, then the head would need to be rebuilt.
