Looking for 91,92 Bird - Couple questions
Hello, I need some advice am looking for 91 or 92 Firebird, I like the Formula best but I thought maybe if I am going to change the whole drivetrain anyway should I just buy a v-6 Firebird for cheap and pull the motor trans and rear out and sell them , I want to go back with a 12 bolt, 200-4r trans and 410 eng and mini ram or ramjet. I guess insurance would be cheaper if they thought it was a v-6. Also need to know are these F bodys painted body color underneath the whole car? Trying to decide if doing a complete color change is possible or a complete nightmare. Thanks for advice on these quest, and any other advice on finding a nice 91 or 92 Bird., Dave
no, the under carriage is not painted. yea i think ins may be cheaper, but it depends on which company your with mostly.. your asking for one helluva project if yo uwant to swap all that.. if your only reason for the swap is bc you could say you have a 'v-6' car.. it is in no way worth it. i'd browse the classifieds here for a car, there have been some very nice ones for sale in the lsat few months. also ebay and autotrader.com are nice places.

I thought maybe buy a v-6 car if I could get one for cheap with nice interior and decent paint, looks like the prices are a lot lower than the v- 8 cars , would be that much more money to spend on good parts. Even if I get a 305 or 350 car its all coming out anyway. , Dave

There's plenty of different trim levels and options. a 6-banger will USUALLY have cloth seats, possibility of the "idiot-gauge cluster" dash, non-leather wrapped handles, less likely to have cargo cover, overhead console, convienience light in center console, the list goes on and on
By the way, this is just my experience from the f-bods i've seen and personally going from a '86 v6 to a loaded '89 TA

I had a 92 V6 car and it came w/ all power options except seats, and that seems std on these cars. All have the full gauge setup as well. You won't end up saving $$$ on insurance in the long run b/c you'll want to have your insurnace company "re-evaluate" the value of the car once you spend the thousands of $$$$ that you are planning on spending. Otherwise, you total the car you dumped $10K into and only get $3-5000 tops.
If you're planning on redoing everything, you can usually get a V6 car much more cheaply, but then you don't have resale value of things like motor, trans, performance rearend, etc that you may have with a V8 car.
That's my $.02
