Adjusted valves today, few???

I adjusted the valves in my 86 Iroc today and I have a few ???. The car runs great but when I slow down I get a funny sound out of the exhaust. It sounds like a "pop" or backfire only when I slow down. Also it has a rough idle. What could this mean??? Also is it okay to drive until I can have the valves adjusted right??

How did you adjust them? If they are too tight you could damage something, and it would idle badly.

Actually what happened was I had a loose rocker arm and I was going to adjust it and all my other valves. But when I got into it I wasn't sure what I was doing so I just adjusted the one rocker that was loose. I did it w/ the engine running and then backed off the nut until the rocker ticked then tightened it until it stopped then put another 1/2 turn on it. I only adjusted the one b/c it was very loose and I was scared to drive on it. Hope this helps. Also it doesn't really idle rough, it almost lopes. Thanks
