Rear Axle Problem

Well I Have A Bent Axle On My 88' 9 Bolt Borg Warner Rear End. Well What Would You Guys Recommend. Replacing The Axle Shaft? Is It Too Much Work Or Even Worth It? Take In To Account That I Have No Experince With Rear Ends. Or Pull A Newer Rear End? If So What Year and Type. 10 bolt? My Rear Brakes are non-functioning As well. Thanks In Advance. All Suggestions Are Welcome

change the bent axle, it's way easier than swapping in a new rear end. only takes a few tools and very little skill. look in a manual to see how it's done if you aren't sure.

Mystik,

Ed is correct, and changing an axle on a Borg rear is easier than the Saginaw units, since you don't have a circlip in the housing to remove. Just remove the wheel, brake, and bearing plate from the outer end of the axle and slide the axle assembly out.

Since you may have some difficulty finding a replacement shaft for your Borg axle, you could check with a larger electric motor rewind/repair shop to have the existing axle straightened and balanced. They have the equipment to straighten and balance heat treated shafts like an axle.

That's sounds cheaper than another rear end.
Let's See if i can find a larger electric motor rewind/repair shop around here. If I Run Into Trouble I'll Post Again. Thanks Guys For The Advice.
