Rotor

This may make me look like a bit of an idiot, but I have the distributor cap off my 1986 Firebird, but damned if I can figure out how to pull off the rotor. It's on there pretty solid, but I can't see any screws or whatnot that would hold it in to place, and certainly nothing on my replacement that would do the same thing.

Any ideas?

I found when I had to take mine appart it was just a matter of force an lube if somehow you can get that in there. I remember having the exact same problem, I had to get someone to show me how to just simply pull it off haha. Although when you put the new one on don't put it on too tight....when I did mine I hit it lightly (or so I thought) with a rubber mallot and it shattered. The guy at the store said he'd never seen anything like that ha!

My stocker was on there tight. Tap it upward with a hammer. It will come off eventually.

1986 V6 motor? Yeah, they just slide on. Of course they then do a mind-meld with the distributor shaft after a few years and often require quite a bit of force to get them to pop off. I coat the distributor shaft with a thin smear of grease before I drop the new one on. Then it'll pop off easy the next time.

Having the same problem with my 305 right now. I also noticed the top of the distributor was covered with surface rust. Is this normal and could it be causing the rotor to stick?
