Mystery heads?
Im in the process of pretty much rebuilding my engine, I had a knock so I have to tear it apart and find out why.
Well anyways, I got the intake manifold off today and noticed something really weird.
When I bought the car the guy said the previous owner droped in a 350, I thought cool...
The heads.. The ports dont match the intake, they look normal except for one corner, which is on an angle. All of the intake ports are like this. Im pretty sure that air is hitting that edge and screwing up the flow.
Do the stock heads come like that? Or are these different heads than what came with the car.
Also, Should I get my heads shaved to raise the compression? And should I port the edges of intake ports?
I wish I still had my digital cameras usb cable, I somehow lost it and its going to cost me 21 dollars for a replacement.

Get the casting #'s and if you can, pics of the obstruction. Do you mean they casted the corner closed? What do you mean by 'the ports don't match'?

i just threw this into paint quickly, this is basicly what they look like
Should I just gasket match these?
also, I forgot to mention, the coolant holes are the same way
In the picture, the top thing to the right is what the head coolant chamber looks like, but yet on the intake its rectangle.
The head/intake are obviously mismatched, when I go out and work on my car today ill write down the casting number and let you guys know. I just woke up and dont feel like hitting the garage just yet.

Gasket matching is mostly a waste of perfectly good abrasive, unless the parts of the heads that actually matter have already been done.
I'm guessing you've never seen this part of a set of heads before. That's pretty normal. They just about all look kind of like that.
Get the casting numbers. All the rest of this is useless until you know what you're working with... or whether it's even worth the trouble of working with, or if you should throw them in the trash and get something better, or whatever.
