car backfiring through intake and no vac. secs.
i put a 350 in my car recently and have a 750 vac sec, non comp controlled HEI, with new coil, cap, rotor, and plugs. i have turned the base timing down to 4 degrees BTDC. but the thing backfires through the intake when the engine is in gear under load. i disconnected the vacuum advance canister and plugged the ported vacuum on the carb and it would still backfire under load. the timing chain on it is new, and i know for sure that the timing marks are lined up where they are supposed to be on it.
im thinking i have a junk distributor but i dont know. its used and i dont know how to check them to see if they are good or bad.
plus i cant tell if my vacuum secondaries are opening or not. i was thinking maybe this is part of my problem with the backfiring but im not sure. if they are not opening what would be wrong with the it? i know i put the carb back together right and the thing will open by hand.
any help is appritiated.
P.S. also i have 7psi fuel pressure and my floats are a tad bit high in back and just right up front
help please! if at all possible i need to drive my car to work today

Holley 750? May have blown the powervalve, not sure if it would continue to backfire, but will affect the 2ndry operation.
May want to move the question to the carb board, or search the carb board for clues.
