Adjusting hydraulic roller lifters

I just finished putting a cam in my 88 trans am 305 TPI, and I proceeded to adjust the lifters. I Rotated #1 piston @ TDC, adjusted those rockers while twirling the pushrod until drag, and tightening 1 turn. then I rotated the motor 90 deg, and did # 8 cyl, rotated, did # 4 etc, etc. until they were all adjusted. Then, after assembling some other stuff on the motor, I notice that some of the rockers are actually loose. Did the lifters "bleed down" somehow? will they "pump" themselves up after I start the car? BTW I did have the lifters sitting in oil while I installed the cam, etc.
thanks, Jeff

That's normal, they will pump up when you start it.

The piston is at TDC twice during one complete cycle of the cylinder, only one of which os suitable for setting the valves. Are you sure you had them at the TDC instance that is the firing point, not the point where the exhaust stroke ends and the intake stroke begins?

The engine is at Firing TDC when the rockers on #6 cylinder are moving (one is closing the other is opening).

RB83L69 is correct. With the #1 piston at Firing TDC, you start by ajusting the lash on #1 rockers.

BTW, I turn down the rocker adjustment nut only 1/4 turn past zero lash.
