Big overheating problem

I got an lt1 in my car with a lt1 radiator ...I installed it myself .... everything is fine execpt my motor is overheating after a 15 min ride ...my overflow bottle is almost empty when the car is cold and then after 15 minute later the overflow tank is filled up to the top...I can hear bubble comming from my rad .... I have tried emptying out the air several time while the rad fans was unplug and my heater motor was not running with key at hot. I let the motor idle for like 20 minutes ... the air is comming out but as soon as I put the rad cap on... my overflow tank start to fill up ...
I tried bypassing my heater core to see if it was getting air from a leak but it's still doing the same thing ...

My lt1 has an air bleeder on the water neck, I'm able to remove the air from the lower hose but it's still getting air from somewhere.

My lt1 has also what is called steam vents in the back of the heads witch connect to a metal line and then to rubber hose (3/8 inch) and it's connected to the radiator near the little oulet that goes to the overflow tank..I think that's my problem because coolant is exiting by that line but not steady...there's a stream of liquid (1/4 oz) every 2 sec like and I guess between those 2 sec it's air ...

does it look like a blown head gasket ??? there's no coolant in my oil and my motor is running smooth and strong...

anybody ever had that problem ??? how can I fix it .. ?

I bumped up something I found out about my cooling system.

Take a look at the topic of "if U R having cooling problems".

Maybe it's the same thing.

are you sure your cooling fans are coming on,when i first bought my 91t/a the previous owner had replaced everything trying to figure out why she was overheating, hoses, thermostat, waterpump,it overheated on me the first day,it took me awhile to realize the eletric cooling fan was not coming on,it had a loose connection at the fuse box,,when i wiggled the fuse it came on,,,theres not much leadway after you hit about 220 degrees before it overheats, especially if your not moving,,something to think about

So what about the thermostat? What temp stat. are you running? Did you check or change that yet? I use a 160 degrees thermo stat because I do a lot of ciy driving in the summer. Highway people are using 180 degree stats, I believe. You can tell by idling the car and watching the temp guage for the temp it is at when the fan kicks on. This will tell you by the temp. on the guage what temp the thermostat is. Just an idea.

not exactly right, your thermostat might open at 160 or whatever degree yours is but your cooling fans usually are set stock to come on around 220 degrees as a fail safe to keep your engine from overheating, you can buy and adjustable fan relay from summit that you can make your fans come on at a lower temp.

Check your timing. Also make sure your not running too lean. Maybe try replacing the radiator cap.

Sorry BarryT/A but my cooling fan never comes on at 220 degrees. In fact my car never gets to 220 degrees unless I am in major stop and go trafffic. My fan comes on between 160 to 170 degrees and my car never runs hot...never.

my fans dont come on until 220, and they rarely get to that point unless im sitting in traffic and its in the upper 90s or 100 degrees, on my 91 t/a 305 tpi the stock thermostat is a 195degree,and like i said the fans are set to come on at 220, the fans dont come on at the same degree as the thermostat opens,if that was the case there wouldnt be a need for anyone to sell adjustable fan relays,,all you would have to buy a different thermostat,

Running lean mean the engine isn't getting enough fuel.

On a stock SD TPI, Fan #1 is set to come on around 228*F and turn off at 220*F. Your fan setup is not stock.

To change the temperature your fan(s) come on you have to do one of two things: 1) install a lower temperature Fan Switch (in the passenger side head) to turn on Fan #2 sooner, or 2) modify the eprom to lower the temperature that Fan #1 turns on.

If you have A/C, Fan #1 will turn on as soon as your turn on the A/C and if your vehicle speed is under 37 mph.
