I have a 92 z28 with the 305, ever since I got the car it had a little detonation knock under load ( realy bad when cold). I put in a lt1 cam and I still have the same knock? You would think after the cam swap that I would have done something to eliminate the knock, but nope. Everything else is stock and I have only done the free upgrades.

 

Detonation has many potential causes that wouldn't be affected by changing the cam. Combustion chamber deposits, lean mixture, overheating chambers, poor quench, excessive spark advance, low octane fuel, and lugging can all lead to detonation. Changing the cam may have little effect on some of those.
