i have this 92' camaro RS, and one wierd *** problem!!

the 92' camaro is holding a 3.1 6 cyl. the car ran fine for several miles, and i noticed that the crank MIGHT be in troubel due to starting i hear a click sound twice then car would start up. Me being the idiot i ignored it, well the car got the best of me, i took it out went 15 miles out of the way, parked it, as i got in again i put the key in and nothing happened. No crank,no noise, no nothing. I checked the electricity everything went on, ex. lights odometer and batter ok. As soon as i turn the key the odometer for the heating temp. goes all the way and nothing goes on not even a crank. Can this be due to the starter, i checked the negative ground on the starter and cleaned it up and nothing, what could be the cause of this problem. Could it be that i need a new starter. Has this ever happened to anyone??????? please help i need to get it running again!!!

Odometer for the heating temp? By that do you mean the temperature gauge? Gauges are supposed to do odd things when you're attempting to crank the car.. It's just them returning to their default status. (Most gauges get their information via sensors that use resistance. When you crank the engine, everything is sent one extreme, either zero or full resistance. So the gauges either jump all the way up or all the way down. At least, I think that's right.)

ANYways.. It could be a starter-related issue. Or it could be the VATS acting up. (Happens often enough.)

I think that if you put the car to the "ON" position, that if the SECURITY light stays on then it's not getting the right reading from the key.. which would probably indicate there's something wrong with the VATS.

Sure I have a 92 RS as well and this has happened to me recently. I put the key in and it clicks about twice then it starts. Check your starter motor connections. Or get a new one with lifetime warranty. If you dont hear a click sound then check your security on your key. I could have gotten dirty if you dropped it or something and the security function will be activated. So wait about 3 minutes then try to start it.

I thought it could of been the security, i have a viper alarm in the car. I cleaned the key, waited a day for crying out loud, and nothing happened, when i install the key theres not a noise going on no click nothing, nothing turns over, the battery is ok i tried jumpstarting, i cleaned the negative ground on the batter, nothing, guess i need to get a new starter.
