Idle problem on 3.1

I have a 91 3.1 in my Firebird. After replacing a bad battery the idle got goofy! It was fine after I fired it back up and drove it about an hour. Then it started getting rough occaisionally dying at lights. It ran this way for a couple days gradually getting worse. Then one trip it died once or twice and then it smoothed out and never had anymore problems. It was fine for months. Over the weekend I had to disconnect the battery to do some work on it and the same problem returned. It finally settled in today and it's idling okay again. Why is this doing this? I have heard that the ECM can learn and adjust but I thought that happened fairly quick like in the first hour or so. I have also read on here about a procedure to setup the idle. Is it the same for the V-6?
Thanks,,, Matt

there is an idle re-learn procedure, on my beretta you have to start it cold let it run until the fan kicks on then shut it off, wait about 15 minutes, start it again until the fan kicks on again then turn it off, and it should be all set.
