New Engine & car wont start

Hello, this is my problem, I just rebuilt my 89 firebird TPI 350 and really didnt make any modifications to it and it has a hard time starting. Meaning that it starts when if feels like it. The full pump primes and the starter turns over. I have checked all fuses and all the connections to be sure everything was connected. Sometimes it will start and sometimes it wont. Can anyone help me.

Normally starting problems are associated with an ignition problem. Its interesting that its having problems now and you didn't make any modifications. I suggest checking your spark, your spark plugs, your wires, and also your cap for carbon tracking. Also, does your car have fuel injection or a carb on it? If fuel injection then make sure you have the lines on right and not backwards, did that once normally if that is the case the car won't start at all. Also double check your timing if you can get it started. Thats what I can think of for now, but it would help some if I knew your setup.

make sure it has fuel and spark. if so make sure it has enough fuel and all the injectors are firing. check timing make sure it's right, or adjust it while cranking the engine. my guess is you have a timing related problem.

I agree, its either timing related, or check all your ignitions. One time, I tried starting my car, but it wouldnt start. I checked, and I didnt connect the ground wire from my MSD to the battery!

When it does start, does it run fine? Does run until you stut off the ignition or does it die out? These are important things to know in diagnosing the problem.

It is fuel injected and all the fueil lines and wires are all connected properly. When its running it trys to stall out and then it does not start.

Being that its fuel injection check the fuel pressure, this is very important on an EFI engine. I would also check the timing, does it sound like the starter is loaded up? What I mean is, does it sound like its working harder than normal? If so you might have too much advance. I still think its something with ignition. You may want to check for vacuum leaks, if you can get it to run. Use some carb cleaner and spray around the gaskets on your intake. Might sound nuts but my car would die all the time, then I checked for leaks. Imagine that, I found one on my passenger side After I got it all sealed back up my car ran like a charm
