Switching to a 350 and need some info.

I'll probably trade out my stock 305 for a 350. I can buy a slightly use 350 for cheap,
but it is out of a '90-'91 Chev. truck.
It is just the block, crank, pistons and cam.
for about $150.00. Is it a good deal?
Or would i need too change a lot of stuff to make it ready for my F-body?
Thanks...

That is a good deal. It should be a roller block though, so you will need lifters and pushrods and the chain and gears, because your stock ones will not work. (If those don't come with it.) Also, I would get a better cam.

One more thing, I think that block uses center bolt heads, while your stock one doesn't. Nevermind, Im a retard. If you use your stock heads you should be fine.

90-92 truck motors are not roller blocks they are standard I put a 350 from a 91 p/u in my 91 RS. I got my long block for $200. So $150 may be a little high IMO.

Yep its a standard 350 I piece rear main block nothing roller about it, although it could have non drilled provisions for the roller hold down. 99% of the newer truck blocks were 2 bolt mains . I would check to make sure it is a 350 it should be clearly stamped 350 on the drivers side front about 1/2 inch back from the timing cover and 1in up from the oil pan it will say 305 or 350. Depending on what year car you have now pre 86 you will need a flexplate for the 86+ engine. If you have a carbed car you will need an electric fuel pump, because gm did not drill the fuel pump housing. You can use your 305 heads but this will boost the compression up and you will need to use a mid grade octane. If you do not get the 350 ballacer use the old timing cover from your 305 on the 350 and you should be good to go.

Let me tell you that making such a bold statement about GM is about as worthy as Bill Clinton saying he didn't boink Monica. I have a 350 Casting #638 out of a 89 3/4 ton Heavy Duty that is a 4 bolt and it has the provisions for the roller cam already drilled and tapped, straight from Chevrolet.

$150 is a great price. Jump on it. I can tell you about how I got mine, plus heads for $100, which is a great deal. But that doesn't mean that you aren't getting a great deal also. If you can, try and talk 'em down on the price. If they budge, great, but if not, still buy it. Just make sure it's not cracked.

You CAN use your old heads, pushrods, and rocker arms as long as you don't go too radical on a new cam.

Your gonna get a lot of "well since your doing that you might as well do this" and "while you got it apart you should do this, then buy these, and relocate those, then port these". Just know that there is a difference between what you can do, and what you should do. Sum ov us dont hav da monee to du wut we shud du. Or maybe we jus dont wanna spnd it if we ain't got 2.

Good luck,
AJ
