are all gm CODES the same in 1990?

i have a 1990 grand am, and i read the codes and it gave me 3 flashes pause 5 flashes. does anyone know what this is?

There's a list of the codes in the FAQ section of this website. Three flashes and five flashes is a code 35.

that code 35 is for the IAC.It needs to be replaced.Its a idel speed error, unless you have a2.2l engine.

I don't know off hand what a code 35 is (OBDI is way too old) but if it is the IAC, that doesn't mean its bad. Could be a wiring problem, or something like a vacuum leak. If there is a vacuum leak, the computer will drive the IAC all the way closed trying to lower idle and if it forces it all the way shut and still can't control the idle, it condems it. Not saying that the IAC isn't bad, but its just one of the many possibilities.
