what is the red wire coming from...i have looked through the wiring diagrams

There is a red wire from the fuel pump relay. when the key was turned onto run, it was getting no voltage. I believe this is the fuel pump prime wire, but I dont know what the hell it does and how it works. btw, my car still wont start sometimes. VATS is fine. I can hear the relay clicking every time. the gray and green/white wires get 12V, the orange wire gets 12V, the ground is good as I have wired in a new ground. is the red wire not priming my fuel pump? i am getting spark. This is the last straw...If I cant figure this out tonight...this thirdgen is sold. Thanks.

The wire to the pump should be tan/white, not red.

there are five wires that come out of the FP relay. one is red, one is black, one is orange, one is gray, and one is green with white stripe. is it possible that I am looking at the wrong relay? it wouldnt start when i pulled the relay I am talking about. Any help would be appreciated. its on a 91 TA 305 TPI

There is an open female blade connector with a red wire on your '91, I think its on the driver's side coming out of the harness. Feeding +12V to that wire should activate the fuel pump (independant of the relay). This is what replaced the pin that used to go in the ALDL port. Dunno if thats what you're looking at or not, but thought I'd put that info out there for ya.

thank you third gen....i am looking at a red wire coming out of my fuel pump relay. I am not sure where it goes...all that I know is that when the key is turned to run, it is getting no voltage. i can not hear my fuel pump prime at all when i turn the key to run...and i know there is not any pressure in the fuel lines.

It sounds like you are looking at the right relay.
The red wire is for the fuel pump prime connector; as mentioned above, it's open, and if 12V is applied to it, the fuel pump should run. The orange wire normally has 12V running through it, and is switched when the relay is activated to power the pump.
The fuel pump feed wire became gray in 1990; it was tan/white prior to that.
