Now what?????????????

Just to refresh your memories, I have had a hard to no start
problem with my 92 tbi bird.
I have tested for spark I get that. I rigged my own noid light but
didn't see it light up. I am going to check that again.
However, when I turned the key it would crank (as usual and not
start), but as soon as the oil pressure got up I would hear and
see a pop from the tbi unit and then some smoke would come
out of it. WHAT GIVES???????????????
Before this is suggested ( I am already pretty sure there is gas
in the tank as well as some fuel stabilizers), I will get my gas can
and put 5 gallons in the tank and try it again.
Just to save some time, when I check for pulse and don't get one,
what "might be the diagnosis? If I do get pulse and it doesn't
fire what would that be?
The fuel pump primes but doesn't shut off. All the fuses are good.
It has a brand new distributor and all the ignition componets are
new.

HELPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK.

I put 5 gallons in the tank so I have fuel.
I checked for spark, I have got spark (bright blue color).
I tested for pulse, and the injectors are pulsing. So what's the
diagnosis now???????????????
It still cranks and won't start. BUT, as I crank it, after about
a minute it backfires.
I spoke to an auto techie and he said my timing is probably off.

IS HE CORRECT???????????????????????

Are the injectors spraying fuel? How does the pulse look? Does the noid light just very briefly come on? Or is it on for a good duration of the firing period?

it could also be the timing, or maybe the motor is just flooded.

Eliminate the guess work.
Disconnect the fuel pump, and crank to get rid of all fuel, or hold it in WOT while cranking so that the ECM initiates a "Clear Flood."

Once it's dried out, pour a little fuel into the TBI, and stay on for a few seconds, if it doesn't start, you'll need to verify the mechanical timing.
