i have a modded 305 (I know what youre thinking!)and recently i have heard some strange noises that seem to be coming from the passenger side of the engine. One noise is like a tick tick, the other is like a think thunk think thunk, almost like a hollow noise. I havent noticed a loss in power at all, she still feels strong, but i have parked her because im scared it could be real serious. im in the navy and on a severe tight budget, so i have to wait to get a proffessional opinion from a shop. I have headers on the car, which has eliminated my need for the smog pump, which is still attached and running on the serpintine belt, but the pump isnt pumping to anything. could this be some of my problem? but then again, what would explain the think thunk think thunk noise from my engine. also, it seems to get worse as the car warms up and usually isnt as loud during idle. any help would be so much appreciated. I only have 1000 miles on this oil change, 103kmiles total with about 6-7k on the rebuilt 305. please help me!

 

Spend $12 on a mechanic's stethoscope at Sears or wherever and probe around to find the source of the noise(s).
