Cooling fan refuses to come on...

My cars been overheating in traffic all summer, and today i found out why. my electric fan is not coming on. I tested both wires going to the motor and they were both getting power so i assumed the motor was bad. No big deal, go to Auto Zone, get the replacement motor, install it, start the car and watch the temp guage rise up to 240 degrees without the fan coming on. I test for power again on both lines, and again both are getting power. whats going on here? Is there some kind of sensor i'm missing or something?

Im thinking about just making a fan switch for it so i can turn it on when i feel it's nessesary. Whats involved in doing that? I dont have any computer controlled stuff anymore i dont think. (CC carb and Dist are gone.)

anyone?

PS- on a side note, does anyone know of the part number for a good header gasket for Edelbrock TES headers? My passenger side is ticking like crazy.

Thanks,
Eric

Keep in mind if your thermostat is not working properly your fans aren't going to go on either. I'd check the thermostat before you condemn the fan motor.

Drilling holes in the thermostat shouldn't mess that up at all. The fan should come on when the A/C is on. Does it? If it doesn't make sure the line directly at the fan has power. If it does, I think it's your fan.

A/C? whats that i ditched that whole mess a long time ago.

I just bought a 160 t-stat so we'll see if that helps at all. ( i wanted one anyway, this just gave me an excuse to go get one)
