need help identifying a part?!?!

when i was assembling my engine that i had got back from the machine shop i noticed when putting the oil pan on that at the back of the block there seemed like there was a section of the block missing. it was like there was a section of the block not there. there were holes in the oil pan for something to be screwed or bolted on. my grandfather said that there was a piece of the block missing and it would not seal the oil pan unless it was there. i have no idea what this piece is called or where to get one. anyone know what this is called and where i can get one. if no one knows what i'm talking about i'll try to post pictures.

Rear main seal housing.

I've only seen them on engines, i.e., from the factory. If you didn't remove it before the engine went to the machine shop, then most likely they forgot to give it back to you.

Why not go back to the machine shop and ask them to give it to you?

my grandfather already asked them if they had it and they didnt. so he told me that it was my responsibility to get that part. but neither of us knew what it was called. i guess it wasnt on the block to begin with but we both overlooked it i guess. is this part expensive?

I don't know how much it would cost new. Most likely it's a dealer part.

You might try posting on the Classifieds (Parts wanted) or searching the parts for sale on this Board.
