Coolant temp sensor, HELP!

Hello, im working on my 84 camaro 305, today i replaced all my hoses (they were all cracked and leaking) i started my car afterwards and the check engine light came on, so I did that nifty little self diagnostic thingy, and it came up code 14, which is coolant temp sensor reading a high temp, the car was only on for about 1 minute before the check engine light came on, so it didnt make sence that anything was hot. any advice? thanks in advance!!!!

Melissa

pop the cap with the car cold turn it on and make sure it full . you could of got some coolent on the sensor to so try leting it get hot and see if the light go's off . If you do change the sensor you mite as well change the thermostat to it's probly as old as the hose , if not older . Just some food for though .

What RocBoy said. If you have air trapped in the engine somewhere you'll redline the temperature in real short order. Water pumps can pump water, not air.

Did you "burp" the cooling system? Radiator cap off, engine running, wait for the thermostat to open up the first time and there will be a big rush of coolant and air through the radiator(the "burp") and then the collant level with stabilize and flow normally so you can top it off from there.
