Search for a few things..
SBC Firing order
How to find TDC
How to find Top Dead Center
Without marking the dizzy, you have no baseline to start with....backfiring through the intake (after what you have done) seems like crossed plug wires somewhere.

FIrst, did you reuse the TBI Dist? Or did you get an HEI piece? Im assuming you got an HEI piece....
Check to see if you arent 180 out. Bump your #1 cylinder to TDC.....Take the #1 spark plug out and put your finger over the hole. Have someone BUMP the motor over with the ignition...best to take the Battery lead off the Distributor. When you feel it blow your finger off, look at the Harmonic Blancer and line up the slit/mark to "0" on your timing marker....thats TDC Compression on #1. Once you do that, take off your distributor cap and see if the rotor button is pointed at #1...if not, pull it out and take it to point to #1....if it is pointing at #6 you are 180 out. If it already points to #1, you are correct.
Once you've eliminated that, put the cap back on and double check your firing order and order of those wires. Once you do that and it sitll doesnt start, well good luck
My car spit fuel outand backfired real bad...I was 180 out...fixed it and it fired on first key and purred. Good luck with this.

ok I got it to start and used a quadrojet carb the issue was the ecm was stuck open i got the timming perfect hears the thing you got to get it to 5000 rpms or so for the 4bbl to open and it runs really sluggish like it only running on 4 cyl. can anyone think of anything

Axle/Gears: I'm working on it,lol.
Are you sure the metering rods in the quadra-jet are right. Sometimes people use larger ones if their motor is making more power than stock. That would cause you to run rich. Also, could you be a little more explanatory about the 5000 rpm remark. Is this when the secondaries open, or is it just when the engine starts to lose power? If it's when the secondaries open, you might want to break out the manual and make some throttle adjustments. The person you bought the intake and carb from, do you know if they were using a TH-350? This swap usually required a different throttle cable bracket. If you used that one, it might explain the late opening of the secondaries.
