Is a special socket required? If so, where can I get it? Thanks guys.

As far as I remeber all you need is a deep 3/4 socket, and an extension and it'll come right out.
Scott,
There is a special socket made for many sensors - somewhat of a 16-point design with rounded corners. However, you can usually use a standard six-point or twelve-point socket of the appropriate size and get the job done.

you need a socket for an oil sender, it's sort of a double hex, but with unequall length flats. most parts store sell them as well as the major tool makers. i have been able to use a regular 1 1/16" socket for the senders in the past but the socket made for them is the best way to go.

Thanks guys. If I cant get it with a regular socket, I'll invest in the right tool for the job.

I just replaced mine. I spent $40.00 for that special socket, just to find out that I cant use it. There's not enough space between the car frame and the sending unit for the socket to even fit over the unit. Its like replacing a spark plug with headers on. I had to use an extended open wrench to slowly unscrew the unit, but finally replaced the damn thing.
