I've got an '89 IROC 140 mph speedo that I was thinking about putting in my '83. I think that part should be pretty straight forward. The question is will it read the same as my '83 model speedo reads? I'm not sure, can anybody help?

I would expect so... I put a later model one in my 83 Z28, seems to read about right...

If you get it to plug in it'll work just fine. Your concern should be that the 89 is electronic (In birds anyways, can anybody confirm this in Camaros?) and yours is cable driven, and while its possible to swap it could be a hassle.

Mechanical speedos are calibrated so that when the cable is turning at 1000 rpm, the speedo will read 60 mph.

I was told by a reputable junk yard that speedometers will read the correct MPH in any cable driven aplication. Electronic ones on the other hand will not always work unless thier application specific.
I would love this 140mph speedo thats sitting at the junk yard but the milage on it reads twice as high as mine .

The IROC one looks to be mechanically driven. I should remember taking it out, but I don't . I was just worried about a change in the years somewhere, but it sounds like a go!

Now I've just gotta change the drive gear on my output shaft to get ANY speedo to read right...

82-89 Camaro speedos are cable driven, and they all interchange. Firebirds went to electronic in 86.

SSC, just turn the mileage back. It's not very hard to do.
