Code 36 and 6 speed swap question

...I have a code 36 again....it says in the manual somthing about transmission shifts....what does this mean? I swaped in a six speed and have not had the chip reburned so the puter still thinks the car is an auto....I've replace the MAF relay recently and the ESC about a year and a half ago...is this tranny glitch causing the code 36?

The manual list code 36 as :MAF sensor burn-off circuit - Poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit; defective MAF sensor burn-off relay; defective MAF sensor; defective ECM. I would check for bad wires and connections first. If all appeared well, you need to use a voltometer to test the voltage output. The output should be 0.5 at idle and 4.7 at w.o.t. While you're hanging aroung the MAF sensor, you might want to check the wire to make sure it's clean. If it's dirty, it'll send faulty info to the ECM. The ECM bases its fuel and ignition curves on the info the MAF sensor provides, so this is kinda important. If all else checks out, either burn or have burned, a new chip that includes the 6 spd trans. If the problem persists after all this, you're probably looking at a faulty ECM.

thanks for the reply dude.....when they say poor electrical connection are they refering to a poor connection in the MAF system? The voltage that you are refering to is that the TPS voltage or voltage at the MAF? The only test I've done to the MAF is while the car is at idle tapping it with a screwdriver to see if the idle changes...it does not...so I figured the MAF is OK......thanks again!

The voltages I referred to are for the MAF sensor. What I meant by the wiring is check around the wires that plug into the MAF and see if they are corroded, worn or torn near the connector or along their path. I know it's a bit of a pain to follow the wiring path, but it's worth it.
