No Spark
No Spark
I went to start my 86 TransAm and the engine turned over and the battery was strong. There was not detonation of fuel in the engine. So far I have
1. Checked all fuses in the fuse box under the dash on the driver side.
2. Can hear the buzz of my fuel pump when I turn on the car for a few seconds and the relay turns it off.
3. Replace the fuel filter
4. Checked fuel pressure.
5. Checked the distributor. I checked the white connector with the key on and it registered 12 volts on the meter. The wire is live.
6. Pulled one of the plugs and put a screwdriver in it and placed it close to the engine block. No spark at all.
7. Replaced the ignition module, capacitor, and the coil.
8. The cap and rotor was replaced a few months back and their in good condition.
9. I DO have an error code 32 in my computer. I've had that for over a month now.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is causing my car not to start?

at first i'd say the module but you've replaced it, still i'd be looking inside the distributor, do you have spark out of the distributor?

Check the timing belt... easiest way is to take the distributor cap off and bump the engine over... if the little rotor doesn't turn then you've broken your timing belt or chain.... thats what i'd check
hope i was of some help

When It turns over, the rotor is turning. What would be the best way to determine if spark is coming out of the distributor? I've already tried from the end of a plug wire. BTW, my car is TPI with the HEI ignition system.
IF you want to check for spark out the distributer, put a 1" piece of vacuum hose between the wire plug and cap post. Stick a grounded test light there when cranking and the spark will jump to the ground.

To check the pick up coil, probe the unplugged leads with a volt meter set on alternating current. You should have over 0.5 volts. You should also check for the injectors firing by feeling or listening for click or getting a $7 dollar node light at auto zone.
I tested the pickup coil and it's dead. I have the new part for $36.00 and im gonna replace it. The pickup coil discintigrated (sp?) when I pulled it out. Im suprised it still worked like that. One thing's for sure, that AC Delco part lasted 180,000 miles, that why I tend to go with the dealer part.
