lean, rich, or what?
im finally starting to get the basics of tuning down, got my idle mostly smoothed out at 700 rpm, doesnt jump around anymore, i got the tps set at .54 idle and 4.25 wot (best i could do, just to get 4.25 i had to grind out the hole so i could twist it farther)
now i have my timing set at 8 degrees with the tan advance wire disconnected, and there is not liquid gas dripping out of my exhaust pipes, but if i put my hand in front of the pipe, slowly it will blow a black sooty liquid out onto my hand. i think its just gas collecting soot from the inside of the pipes. if i leave it running in the garage a while it will collect behind the pipes. it seems to be running pretty well, but my timing is fine right, i either need to adjust my o2 sensor or get a new one? keep in mind, im a noob, and i've never messed with this, only have the most basic understanding of what lean and rich means. thanks,
Shaun

well i decided to lean it out the easy (maybe expensive
) way, grinding down the fins on my mass air flow sensor
ill see where that gets me

finished that up last night, crossed my fingers and put it back in today, works fine WHEW
feels a bit snappier, especially on the interstate, almost as much of a difference as the cold air intake made. today im going to bypass the coolant to the throttle body, got the hose, just waiting for it to cool down. but back to the point, its still spewing out the ashy residue, not quite as bad but still there. should i just turn down the fuel pressure until it goes away? how do i measure my air/fuel ratio?
