Help me fix my car for Summer Nationals tomorrow!
Help me fix my car for Summer Nationals tomorrow!
Here's the deal. I finally got my car running on Monday after a cam swap and taking the heads off to be machined and ported a little. My setup is in my sig. I am unfortunately still running a 305 TPI computer chip. However, I have the equipment to burn my own chips and I'm learning. The car ran strong on Monday, had good power and throttle response, but was realllly rich, like 10.5-11:1 at WOT and 12 or 13 while cruising. The plugs fouled themselves really quickly. I figured I'd burn a new chip to have less fuel. I did that today, and the car barely even stays running and it won't rev at all. It pours blue smoke out the exhaust too. Is it possible that this is just because of the chip? The only thing I changed since Monday was the chip. I know blue smoke is usually oil, but I didn't have any smoke on Monday so I don't think I blew any rings or the valve seals died in a few days. The plugs are horribly black when I take them out, but if I clean them with a rag and compressed air they look decent. Anyone have any ideas of what's going on?

I'd stick the stock chip back in, at least it was driving with that. Better rich then copious quantitis of black smoke, right?
I would, only trouble is I burned the new one over it and the chipburning stuff is really my brother's and he hates letting me use it. I know burning over it was a bad idea but I had about 5 blank chips and none of them would program correctly when I tried to use them.

Possibly....washdown killed your engine. I know mine ran rich for a long time, very very rich....and I ended up with a dead cylinder that had almost 100% leakdown and only half of the normal compression.... But you didn't run yours for long enough to really destroy it...I mean yeah, those A/F ratios are pretty damn rich....but thats around what mine probably were, and mine lasted over 6 mos. that way.
But hoping for the best....do plugs and fix that chip, hopefully that will clear things up. BEG your brother to let you use that stuff. Tell him your motor might blow if you don't get it fixed, cause it's got a bad tune.
Keep checking your oil and coolant levels...make sure you're not losing either, and there's no oil in the coolant, and no coolant in the oil. A compression check wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah...I only drove it for a day really rich.
The coolant and oil levels haven't gone down at all.
I guess I'll get new plugs and try to get the stock chip back in there to see if that helps, then tune it from there.

Anyone want to clue us in on what the AFR at WOT should be? I searched some in the prom board and I was getting the general feeling that it should be just under 13, but I mostly found stuff relating to BLMs. That doesn't help me much since I can't datalog yet, I only have a wideband to go by.
