Starting when Hot
Starting when Hot
I have a 1989 Pontiac Formula with the 5 speed & 305 TPI engine. After driving for over 1/2 hour quick the car wont start when shut off. Once I had to wait about 30 minutes but recently I had to wait 1 1/2 hours then it just started like normal. this car has 103,00 miles on it but I dont know the age of the starter. The car has is all original & I did not add headers or anything like that. many people claim to have this problem with headers but I dont. This problem just started like last month & it stats fine once cold. Would the starter just go like that. I know its not a VATS problem but is there anything else time related that i could check or should I just get a starter.
Thanks

It sounds like the silenoid on the starter. One good (cheap) way to check it is to take a screwdriver and arc the 2 posts on the starter. Or if you don't want to burn you arms severely on the exhaust, get a remote starter switch from your local parts store, and hook it up to The 2 posts on the starter. When you mash the button, it effectively bypasses the silenoid. It may be best to drive around, and then go home to try that one. That way, one can get under the car if you have to, and won't have people looking at you like you're a ******* or something.
Anyways, if that works and starts the car when it's hot, just replace the silenoid.
