Could it possible be fuel starvation? My car has a problem every now and then - on WOT for a long time, the fuel bowl completely empties and the car lurches up and down. I have to elt off the gas almost compeltely, give it a sec or two for the fuel bowl to fill back up. This only happens to me if my engine runs hot and if i hold WOT from like 40 to 80. The first time it did it I thought it was detonation. That could also be your problem, though. What octane gas are you running?

Its a carb problem.
What are the condidtion of the spark plugs? wet, dry, white, black?
Sputtering can be too much fuel or too little, the plugs should tell the tale.

Check your plug wires also. This has happened to me where they got cracked from laying on the headers.
