Releasing fuel pressure

I have an 89 Trans Am GTA 350 TPI. I know that you are supposed to full the fuel pump fuse and run the car until it dies to release the pressure. But when i did that my idle droped to about 4 or 5 hundred RPM and stayed that way. I let it run for about 10 minutes and it did not die. Is there any other method of releasing the pressure in the fuel line?

Vomex, (nice title, dude)

Welcome Aboard!

You can release fuel pressure at the pressure test port on the right fuel rail. Make sure the engine is cold so the fuel that is spilled is less likely to ignite.

The port is right here:

Of course, you'll keep all ignition sources away from the area, right?

In addition to what Vader has advised you to do (which I have also found is the quickest and best method), don't forget to remove the gas cap and eliminate tank vapor pressure as well.
