Test for bad intake gasket vs. bad valve seal?
My car is burning oil really bad on a freshly rebuilt engine. I have narrowed it down to the number 4 cylinder after pulling the plugs. I'm assuming the problem is either a bad intake gasket or a bad valve seal. Is there a way to test for one or the other? I can get a leakdown tester from a friend but not until next week. Is there any other way I can test it this weekend?

When my intake gasket went I had vaccum in the crankcase. So, when I took the oil cap off I could hear and feel suction. Don't know if it'll help in your case but figured I'd post.

What do I want to look for vac wise with the intake? Something on the gauge or suction at the oil cap like recommended above?

Ok well the weekend was too busy to work on it, but hopefully one night this week. I'm also picking up my friends leakdown tester today or tomorrow.
