dam.... blowing smoke

My friend was following me on the hiway and said that when i accelerated hard, smoke wouldcome out of my tail pipes. He said it was a large amount.... equivalent to doing anice long burnout, but no, i was not burning out.

I have a bad exhaust leak on thepassenger side of the block... could thesmoke coming out be because thatone side of the block is runninglike **** becuase of the exhaust leak and the other is running properly? IDK if it matters, but my fuel pressure is a shade below 50psi.

I blow a little bit of white smoke on startup if the car is sitting over night... is it related to that? Is my motor dying on me / getting tired with 110,000 miles?

Any ideas?

If it's white smoke, it could be coolant on your engine. Are you loosing coolant?

RS,

There is definetly not coolant ON the motor... the smoke was coming out of the tailpipes.

Maybe you meant IN the motor... that would be something to check for. However, if there was coolant leaking into the motor, wouldn't there be smoke coming out at a much more constant rate? I only get white smoke out of the tailpipes on hard acceleration. Hmmmmm

white smoke in the morning is not smoke but steam from condesation in the pipes. When your friend was behind you what color was the smoke. if it was blue then u are burning oil. If the smoke was black the car was runing rich

How is your car running. I think what people are getting at is that you may have a head gasket problem. If you are burning any coolant and there are no leaks then this could be. Most likely the smoke at startup is from bad valve guide seals, a common problem that most of the time would only cause smoke at startup. Did you car downshift when you hit it and your friend saw smoke? If you hit it and it downshifted into high rpm, sometimes bad valve guide seals can make it smoke for a second, but not a stream of smoke. If it looked like a burnout and the smoke was white I would check your coolant level and make sure you werent burning anything.
good luck
