CompCams Hydraulic Roller Lifter Installation Kits

Just some fun facts for those of you that are thinking about ordering this kit. If this is old news then I apologize. If not, I hope it helps people in the future.

Part # 08-1000 In the catalog it just states that this kit if for SBC 305 & 350 with O.E. Hydraulic Roller Camshaft.

When you call Compcams to inquire about this kit it'll show up on their computer as application for 87-93 Non-Vortec. At first, I couldn't figure out what would be different if it was a vortec application, or in other words, a later model block. After getting the kit I figured it out.

Now don't kick me in the butt for this, as I'm still new to the SBC world, (I'm originally a F*** man!.....don't hate me ). I realized that the cam retainer plate doesn't fit. This kit comes with the earlier style retainer plate that has a wider bolt to bolt center distance. I discovered that the newer blocks have a narrower bolt to bolt center distance for these cam retainer plates.

Here is an oooooold thread discussing this cam retainer plate situation for those of you that didn't know about this like me!

I hope this all helps in the future for those unknowledgable with these small differences

Anthony

Below is a pic of the kit from CompCams that I'm talking about.

I posted regarding the plates a couple of months ago. I apparently didn't have the proper search terms, because the thread you linked didn't show up.

At any rate, the block casting # has nothing to do with which plate you need. The castings are the same, the bolt spacing changed somewhere in the 90's.

If you look at the parts lists for the ZZ engines, you'll see the ZZ3 came with both the "early" wide spacing and "late" narrow spacing. So, the change took place during that run.

FWIW, my situation is I had a complete '87 LB9 engine to donate the roller parts, and a bare ZZ3 block that needed them. The plate was wide spacing, the block was narrow. Nothing slotting the plate mount holes wouldn't fix.
